Amazon Prepares to Offer Internet Television
As the biggest online retailer in the world, Amazon changed the way we shop forever, and the service is only continuing to evolve. If new reports are to be believed, the retail giant has now set its sights on changing the way we watch television too.
Video streaming and similar internet entertainment services have already begun to challenge traditional television providers by creating their own original content to be hosted online, so change has been on the horizon for the television industry for some time. According to reports, Amazon has approached a number of media companies about the possibility of featuring media on an internet video site.
Ever since Amazon purchased UK-based streaming service LoveFilm in 2011, the company has had a considerable stake in the digital television business. Amazon Prime members are able to view a large library of movies and TV shows, so perhaps an internet television service is only the next logical step for the company. Keeping in mind the fact that TV advertising is a billion dollar industry in the US, and that Amazon is also in a powerful position as a retailer, the move is certainly a shrewd one.
