AT&T will give gigabit service for $70 – if you let it spy on you 

AT&T has recently introduced gigabit service to four Austin neighborhoods, and has offered its GigaPower fiber service for just $70 per month. Of course, there’s the T&C for this offer – and you really shouldn’t skim the fine print on this one. In order to qualify for the lower rate, you need to agree “to participate in AT&T Internet Preferences.” What are these? To quote the company themselves: “AT&T may use your Web browsing information, like the search terms you enter and the Web pages you visit, to provide you with relevant offers and ads tailored to your interests.” Seems like the company has looked to Google to plan their business model. AT&T has already come out to claim it won’t be “selling anyone’s information,” but this already feels uncomfortably close to that. Watch this space…
